How to Get a Gemini API Key

Last updated: June 28, 2026

Add your own Google Gemini API key so Infinity can use AI to enrich your listings with detailed item specifics.

What Is a Gemini API Key?

A Gemini API key lets Infinity use Google's AI to read a product's title and details and fill in eBay item specifics that aren't already in the structured product data (for example, "Type", "Power Source", or "Material" when they're only described in the text). Richer item specifics mean your listings show up in more eBay search filters and get found by more buyers.

You bring your own key, so your AI usage is billed to your Google account, stays under your control, and is never shared.

What You'll Need

  • A free Google account.
  • About 2 minutes.

Step-by-Step: Create Your Key

  1. Go to Google AI Studio: https://aistudio.google.com/apikey
  2. Sign in with your Google account.
  3. Click Create API key.
  4. If prompted, choose Create API key in a new project (the simplest option), or select an existing Google Cloud project.
  5. Your key will appear it begins with AIza.... Click Copy.

Step-by-Step: Set Up Billing (Required)

Google requires a billing account linked to your project for the Gemini API to work reliably. This is quick, and most sellers still pay little or nothing (see costs below) - but the account must exist.

  1. In Google AI Studio, open the API key you just made and click Set up Billing (or go to https://console.cloud.google.com/billing).
  2. Click Link a billing account -> Create billing account if you don't have one.
  3. Enter your payment details and confirm.
  4. Make sure the billing account is linked to the same project your API key belongs to.

Without a linked billing account, Gemini will reject requests or limit you to a very low free quota. Linking billing unlocks normal usage. You're billed directly by Google, with no markup from Infinity.

Step-by-Step: Add It to Infinity

You can add your key during onboarding (on the Amazon connection step) or anytime afterward from the Accounts page:

  1. Open your Infinity dashboard and go to the Accounts page.
  2. Find the API Keys card, and the Gemini API Key row.
  3. Click Set key (or Change if you already have one).
  4. Paste your key (it begins with AIza...) and click Save.

That's it. The row will show as configured, and Infinity will use your key for AI on all your listings.

Your key is stored encrypted. You can rotate or revoke it anytime from Google AI Studio without affecting the rest of your account.

Agency members

If you're a managed seller under an agency, you don't need to add a key yourself - your listings automatically use your agency owner's Gemini key. If listing is blocked for a missing key, ask your agency owner to add one on their account.

What Does It Cost?

For most sellers, nothing. Google offers a free tier, and Infinity uses the lightweight gemini-2.5-flash-lite model, which is one of the cheapest available. Typical listing volumes stay within the free allowance.

If you list at very high volume and exceed the free tier, the cost is only a few cents per several thousand listings you're billed directly by Google, with no markup from Infinity.

Do I Have To Add a Key?

Yes. Infinity uses your own Gemini key for AI features, so you'll need one set on your account to list. (Managed agency sellers are covered by their agency owner's key - see above.) It only takes a minute, and for most sellers it's free. Once your key is in place, every listing is enriched automatically.

Why It Matters

eBay rewards listings with complete, accurate item specifics by surfacing them in more search filters and results. The more specifics your listings carry, the more discoverable they are and the more they sell. Bringing your own Gemini key unlocks the fullest version of Infinity's automatic item-specifics enrichment.
