Marketing: Promotions
Promotions are buyer discounts you set on listings you choose: markdowns, percent-off, or order discounts. You pick the deal and the dates.
Promotions vs Ads
- Promotions are discounts. There is no bidding and no per-sale fee.
- Ads (Promoted Listings) are paid placement where you bid and pay a share of the sale.
Use Promotions when you want to move inventory or reward buyers, and Ads when you want more visibility in search.
Tip
Time-boxed sales (a clear start and end) create urgency and tend to convert better than a permanent discount that buyers learn to wait for.
